However, the 1911 census has him at 88. He would have been 89 if this is the right birthdate (April 1911). It also says he was only married for 45 years (~1866). Married for the first time at 43? That is why I think there was a prior wife to Joanna.

He is on lot 6B. Also Jeremiah took over lots 6c and 6d in 1860 he left the house for John Clifford.

Mary Scannell was on 6c then transfered to Timothy Scannell but no record of transfer. He is plan of record (owner) in 1860.

6d was John Sheahan then to Jeremiah in 1859 (John could have been Catherine's dad). Then it was Andrew as plan of record in 1860.

THere was a John Sheehan on lot 6d in 1858, this transfered to Jeremiah Scannell 1858/1859. Catherine could be related to John Sheehan. Jeremiah being Catherine's husband.

I believe that John Sheahan was Catherine (his wife's) dad and Jeremiah took over the land. Patrick Sheahan may have been John's brother and lived longer.

Timothy Sheehan may be Catherine's Dad's name or more likely grandfather. There was a Tim Sheehan in 1834 with Land in Douglas.

The marriage records of the early 19th century do not give the names of the parents of the bride and groom but do give the witnesses.

In the case of the marriage of Jeremiah Scannell and Catherine Sheehan, the witnesses were John Sheehan, Michael Scannell and Edmund Sheehan.

Hope that fills in another piece of the jigsaw!

The Michael Scannell could be the father, brother or cousin.?

Children of Jeremiah Scannell and Catherine Sheehan are:

+ 72 i. Timothy "Thady"5 Scannell, born 24 Mar 1849 in Douglas; died 1917 in Killorglin, County Kerry.

Scannell Denis 86 Male Head of Family R Catholic Co Kerry Retired Farmer Cannot read Irish and English Married -

Scannell Ellen 70 Female Wife R Catholic

Not in 1911 census; so dying in 1907 is possible. Mary is alone in 1911 census.

Here is the logic behind the kids:

    1. 1901 census has Mary as daughter to Denis and Ellen.

    2. Michael's birth is in the church records (1850) to Ellen and Denis

    3. Johanna marriage has Ellen Riordan and Denis as parents.

    4. Mary is with Denis and Ellen in 1911 census

    5. Timothy's marriage record has Denis as the father. Age works and connectoin to Michael with grave.

    6. Michael Scannell and Hannah Scannell were witnesses for the birth of Denis Scannell son of John Scannell married to Mgt Shea.

    7. John Lynn said his mother Ellen was a first cousin of Katty daughter of Michael.

    8. Johanna was witness to the birth of Michael's son Denis and John's son Denis.

    9. Daniel Kissane (brother in law- Johanna) and John Scannell (brother) were witnesses to Timothy's marriage.

The reason why I believe that Michael, Timothy and John are brothers is because of this:

    1. From Cynthia Scannell

    Hi Paul,

I've been cleaning out closets, getting ready for our move. I came across an email from my husband's first cousin John Schmidt (his mother is Helen Scannell Schmidt, grandfather is Dennis Scannell, great-grandfather Michael Scannell). I had forgotten about this email, but it confirms that the Timothy buried in the Killorglin cemetery is indeed the brother to our Dennis Scannell. John is a Catholic priest in Chicago

    2. From Seamus:

I asked him about Katty Scannell in

Douglas, and he said she was a First Cousin of his Mothers,Katty was a first

cousin of my fathers,so would that mean that there was another brother

for our Tim(married to Casey),and the the John Scannell, grand father of

Lynes.Maybe you are right with the Michael Scannell that you thought was

Tims brother.John Lyne said he wouldask more questions and let me know. (Yes, I was right here, this makes sense.

Denis Scannell & Ellen Riordan marriage date 18/2/1849

    Witnesses

    John Cloovane (Clifford)

    Michael Custelloe (Costello(e)

    Notes for Ellen Riordan:

In the 1901 Census it has Ellen as the wife of Denis. The ages are the same. It has Mary as a daughter. Michael's birth is in the church records. Michael is the land owner of their (Denis and Ellen) in the 1901 census.

Birthdate from the census. 70 years old in 1901.

Not in 1911 census so may have died between 1901 and 1911.

Church records have marriage but need to search Killorglin, doesn't have Douglas as hometown.

These are best guesses for birth of Ellen Riordan.

The birth in 1831 makes sense for the age of 70 for the 1901 census... Although census was in March and her birth was December so, she would be only 69 when the census hit.

Children of Denis Scannell and Ellen Riordan are:

+ 80 i. Michael Denis5 Scannell, born 14 Sep 1850 in Doughlas, Killorglin Parish, County Kerry; died 1926 in Douglas.

+ 81 ii. Timothy Scannell, born Bet. Apr - Nov 1857 in Douglas, County Kerry; died 19 Nov 1947 in Killarney, County kerry, Ireland.

+ 82 iii. John Scannell, born Abt. 1860 in Killarney?; died 1914 in Douglas.

83 iv. Mary Scannell, born Abt. 1856 in 1911 census.

    Notes for Mary Scannell:

There is a Mary Scannell in the 1911 Census living with parents..

    1901 census:

Scannell Mary 45 Female Daughter R Catholic Co Kerry General Servt Domestic Cannot read Irish and English Not Married -

Scannell Denis 86 Male Head of Family R Catholic Co Kerry Retired Farmer Cannot read Irish and English Married -

Scannell Ellen 70 Female Wife R Catholic

Her age is 55 in 1911 which makes her born in 1856. It says that Michael is the landlord so, I think this is Michael her brother. (would make sense that parents died between 1901 and 1911).

+ 84 v. Johanna Scannell, born Abt. 1859 in Doughlas, Killorglin Parish, County Kerry.

    Generation No. 5

    59. John5 Scannell (Denis Andrew4, Andrew3, Denis Crone2, Scannells from1 Douglas) was born 07 Aug 1870. He married Mary Foley 24 Feb 1900 in St. James Parish, Killorglin, daughter of Patrick Foley and Mary. She was born 1875.

    Notes for John Scannell:

Angela Grey has birth as 7 Aug 1870.

    On lot 3F from 1919 - 1931

Parish Records: John's parents are given as Denis Scannell and Mary Scannell and Mary's parents as Patrick Foley and Mary Foley. (This was confirmed by Mary Clifford). This causes an issue. Denis Andrew was married to Johanna from 1866 thru 1911 so, it can't be his father.

*** I think that maybe the record is wrong and there were too many Mary's. I think that John's mother is Johanna Sheehan.

    From the 1911 Census:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kerry/Killorglin/Douglas/289331/

I'm glad that you are enjoying success in your quest for the pieces of your family tree. It is lovely to make and meet family connections.

re John Scannell & Mary Foley:

John's parents are given as Denis Scannell and Mary Scannell and Mary's parents as Patrick Foley and Mary Foley. (This was confirmed by Mary Clifford).

    Hi Paul

Michael John Scannell was my Grandfather who died in 1965. His Sister Julia Mary came back from America and died in Killorglin. Patrick was my Uncle Denis's first born and Hannah Scannell was my Grandmother. They're my Scannells, but I'd say we're related somewhere along the line.

There was a Bridget Corkerry (age 60 - born 1851) and a Mary Foley (age 70 born 1841) on the same land in the 1911 census. This is interesting because Corkerry and Foley are from different trees. It says Mary was a widow, Bridget a visitor.

Birth record from registar, also in hard copy church records. Not in online database.

My great grandmother was Margaret Scannell who married John Hurley of Gurrane in 1902. She is not on your tree but, according to her marriage certificate, her father was Denis A Scannell of Douglas. Her birth certificate gives her date of birth as 1 July 1875 and lists her father as Denis Scannell of Douglas and her mother as Johanna Sheehan of Douglas. This information and the dates tie in with census information for 1901 and 1911 and birth records of their children.

Using parish records I had managed to trace back her father, grandfather, Andrew, and her great grandparents Denis and Ellen. I was delighted to find that my family tree tied in with yours as I found it very difficult to unravel the family names and relationships. The fact that you have the same information gives me more confidence that it is correct.

One of my concerns when I was building my tree was that the date of birth of Denis Andrew was two years before the date of his parentsí marriage. What did you think about that being realistic?

Author: Edward Margerum Date: 28 Feb 1999 12:00 PM GMT

    Surnames: Scannell, Coffey

I am searching for information on John Scannell (d. ca 1914) and his wife, Ellen (Eileen) Coffey of Douglas, Kilorglin, County Kerry who had 13 children: Dennis, Edward, Gerald, John, Kathleen, Mary (Mamie), Michael, Stephen, Timothy, Sheila (Julia), Siobhan, Paddy and Andrew, all born between 1890-1914. Gerry and Mick died in Queensland before 1947. Tim and Paddy died in New York before 1970 where Sheila still lives. Mamie and Stephen died in Ireland where Andy still lives. The rest died before maturity. They also had an adopted son, John Griffin of whom nothing is known. I can supply much information forward but nothing back from John and Ellen. Any information would be appreciated.

He may be buried in the same grave as his son. Timothy Scannell in the Killorglin graveyard. (Dromavally) Terry told me that they had to move his remains to get Tim (1967) in.

Lived in Douglas when his son Denis was born (1899). The death date is 1914 according to Ed. A farmer, he brought and owned the family farm in Kilorglin, County Kerry, Ireland. It has been said that he was not originally from the Kilorglin area. (not sure about this - Paul)

    Notes for Ellen Coffey:

    On lot 6ABbc 1926 - 1843

She is buried in Killorglin with the other Scannells. It says wife Helen died July 25th, 1939 age 72.

Sr. Helen confirmed that it was Ellie Coffey. Timothy first married Bridget Cookey then Ellen Coffey.

I found her birth in LDS, that states Killorglin. And in Vol. 5 pg 281 that states: Douglas, Killarney West, to John Coffey - farmer. and Julia Clifford. Terry Scannell also mentioned Julia Clifford.

    Marriage not in vol 5.

The 1911 census says that Michael and Catherine were only married for 18 years in 1911 (1893). This also means that Michael had another wife who was the father of Timothy and Denis...

THe 1901 census has Michael (40) and Kate (36), However, this is only 10 years earlier (all the kids ages are in agreement). Since Michael could not read/write, I think they just did the math wrong.

Death estimate from when Catherine took over the land in 1926. His wife.

John is a Catholic priest in Chicago. Read on:

Notes for Katherine ( Katie) Corkerry:

    On lot 3B 1926 - 1959

Probably second wife to Michael due to 1911 census stating they were only married in 1893 or so..

There was a Bridget Corkerry (age 60 - born 1851) and a Mary Foley (age 70 born 1841) on the same land in the 1911 census. This is interesting because Corkerry and Foley are from different trees. It says Mary was a widow, Bridget a visitor.

Children of Michael Scannell and Katherine Corkerry are:

    149 i. Timothy6 Scannell, born 13 May 1886; died 26 May 1956.

    Notes for Timothy Scannell:

    On Lot 3B 1939 - 1959 (can't be on lot 3B in 1956 -1959).

Buried in Killorglin graveyard. On the headstone it says:

Pray for the soul of Timothy Scannell, died May 26, 1956 aged 70 years. RIP Erected by his sister Katty (Katharina/Katie).

He is buried in the same grave as my great grandfather Timothy and Ellen Casey.. (see Seamus email 7/7/02):

    1. From Seamus:

The Tim (1956) Scannell is buried in in Timothy Scannells and Ellens

(Casey) grave and would be a 1st cousin of my father and Uncle Den.

    2. I think Mary Scannell told him this (Mary is his cousin related through the Burkett sisters. Her brother (I think Uncle) had a lot of information on our family.

#1 and #2 are conflicting. Addiitonally. There is a Timothy on lot 3B who has the land in 1959 but this Timothy died in 1956. There may be another Timothy or I need to check the land record dates again....

1911 census has him here at age 25 son of Michael and Katie.

This could be the Timothy from the Muller website. On that she has a TImothy and Catherina born to Catherine Corkerry and MIchael Scannell in Douglas. There are other siblings as well:

Denis Michael SCANNELL b: 14 APR 1888 in Douglas, County Kerry, Ireland

    Timothy SCANNELL b: ABT. 12 MAY 1886

    Joanna SCANNELL b: ABT. 23 AUG 1890

    Julia SCANNELL b: ABT. 7 MAY 1896

    Helena SCANNELL b: ABT. 12 SEP 1896

    Catharina SCANNELL b. Abt. July 19, 1900.

Did Timothy Scannell have children... maybe that explains the other sin the land (Kathleen)??

150 ii. Katharina ( Katie) Scannell, born Abt. 19 Jul 1900.

Notes for Katharina ( Katie) Scannell:

This spelling may be Katherina. On the headstone it says:

Pray for the soul of Timothy Scannell, died May 26, 1956 aged 70 years. RIP Erected by his sister Katty.

    On Lot 3B in 1961-1974

+ 151 iii. Denis Michael Scannell, born 14 Apr 1888 in Douglas, County Kerry, Ireland; died 09 Oct 1959.

+ 152 iv. Joanna Scannell, born Abt. 23 Aug 1890.

    153 v. Julia Scannell, born Abt. 07 May 1894 in census records 1911 - 17 years old.

154 vi. Helena ( Ellie) Scannell, born Abt. 12 Sep 1896 in census records.

    81. Timothy5 Scannell (Denis4, Michael3, Denis Crone2, Scannells from1 Douglas) was born Bet. Apr - Nov 1857 in Douglas, County Kerry, and died 19 Nov 1947 in Killarney, County kerry, Ireland. He married Ellen Casey 03 Apr 1894 in Milltown, County Kerry, daughter of John Casey and Jane Spillane. She was born Abt. 1867 in Coolroe, Kilbonane Parish, County Kerry.

    Notes for Timothy Scannell:

The 1901 census says he is 35; Ellen is 30... Kids are (John 6, Ellen 4, Denis,2) Tim, aged 20 years, Ellen aged 15 in 10 years :) 1866 birth?

According to 1911 Census he was 55 in 1911, Ellen was 45. This would be 1856/1857 for birthdate. This was April 1911. He was 90 in Nov 1957 (death certificate). So he was born between April and Nov 1857

    Link to 1911 Census:http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kerry/Dromin/Coolroe__North/289960/

Ages of children: John, Ellen, Denis, Jane (17, 15, 13, 10)

The census also says they had 7 kids born alive but only 5 still alive in 1911. I see only 4.

No births in GRO between 1864-1876 for Timothy. (Casey collection Vol 8). PG 301 Vol 5 Casey has their marriage. It says Ellie was 23, from Coolroe. Ty. from Doughlas. Parents John Casey and Denis Scannell. Married in Milltown. In the Barony of Magunihy, COunty Kerry. John Scannell (Brother) and Daniel Kissane (brother in law) were the witnesses. Timothy, Denis and John were all farmers. Timothy Scannell was of full age (at least 21)? Ellie Casey was 23

He is buried in with Ellen Casey and Tim Scannell 1956 (Nephew - son of Michael). Tim Scannell from 1967 is buried in the grave next to this (1st cousin once removed). That Tim Scannell has a plaque on the gable of the church. (Dromavally). From Seamus.

    82. John5 Scannell (Denis4, Michael3, Denis Crone2, Scannells from1 Douglas) was born Abt. 1860 in Killarney?, and died 1914 in Douglas. He married Margaret Shea.

    Notes for John Scannell:

John Scannell as a witness to Timothy and Ellen's marriage

John took over lot 3b in 1913. This could be the John. John was removed from the land in 1914 back to his brother Michael Denis.

Margaret Shea is the wife. The first son is Denis which would be named after his dad. Then the other sons were named after brothers. The first dauther is Mary which could be his sister.

Son Denis is born 3/5/1887 in Killarney (michael and Hannah Scannell were witnesses John's brother and sister) and TImothy born 6/7/1891 in Boherkeale. There is a street in Killarney named Boherkeale... If this is the case why would John be on in Douglas in 1913?

    Notes for Margaret Shea:

This is definetly Margaret SHea I found all 7 children that match the names that Seamus gave me in Vol 14.

Children of John Scannell and Margaret Shea are:

    Notes for Johanna McKenna:

Birth, Church Records matches 1911 census

1911 census has a Guessing on John. There was a John and Johanna McKenna in the 1911 census. She was 52 he was 54.

He is the McKenna on Lot 3c?

Child of Johanna McKenna and XX Foley is:

    176 i. Daniel7 Foley.

    Notes for Daniel Foley:

There was a Joanna Scannell who was the Godmother of Michael's son Denis. This could be the one...aunt would make sense.

There also was a Hannah which was the witness to John and Margaret Shea's son Denis. Also with Denis the other witness was Michael. This would make Aunt and Uncle to father the witnesses. This makes sense. Also Seamus said that the Daniel Foley he met had a grandmother that was Hannah Scannell with Brother Jeremiah. This would fit. Oops, Jeremiah would not fit here. The Jeremiah I was thinking of is Timothy (Coffey's) dad. There was a Mrs. Jeremiah Scannell who was nearest closest relative for Timothy and Michael's immigration papers. It said this was their mother, however, Their mother was Margaret Shea, father John.

Seamus said he is about 70 years old. This could be used in getting dates for parents/grand parents. Seamus said that he had a grandmother named Johanna Scannell with a brother Jeremiah. Born about 1930?

I was back to Douglas last nite, and I met a relation of the 3rd Scannell

family,he says all the 3 Scannells are related, His Grandmother was Johanna Scannell (she had a brother Jerry) and she married McKenna, and their daughter Johanna married Foley and would be parents of the man I met last nite..

I asked him if he had any idea who our Denis was married to,and he said it

might be Mary Shea, you had that too. He was to the Church in Killorglin and Mary told him it was one of the priest's that burned some of the records. I gave him your email,as his wife has a computer, and ye might be able to sort out some more information. His own name and Adress is

The Tim Scannell who died while on holidays,is the father of Sr Helen, and

is buried in the grave next to our one. He has a plaque on the gable of the

"In Loving Memory of Tim Scannell, New Jersey, USA and west Currane, Died July 27, 1967 age 71." He is in the 1911 census in Douglas.

Notes from Sr. Helen and Terry.

He would visit every summer to help out on the farm. One day he was in the house on the farm and asked for a "mineral" (soda). When Anna came back with it he was dead.

The town shut down for his funeral and they walked his casket thought town. There were 6 different Timothy Scannells carrying the casket. Two men at a time from the town would rotate in to carry the casket. While they were lowering the casket some soldiers came over the hill and gave a soldiers salute. (Buried with IRA honors) They then dissapeared. They were IRA members. Timothy fought with Michael Collins. He was on the run as they say.

    From Ed Margerum

Apparently the name of the cousin in Boston was Timothy Scannell. He

ran a restuarant in Boston in the 20s and Sheila came over to work in

She was born 15 Aug 1902 in Callanafersy, Milltown, County Kerry, Ireland, and died 06 Jan 1964 in New York.

Notes for Denis Joseph Scannell, Sr.:

Buried at Gates of Heaven Hawthorne, NY with Nora (section Gr.1 P.411)

    named after his Grandfather.

    Letter from O'Connell:

    Talking about Denis Scannell

As far as Jim Knows he had no siblings. He had a cousin Timothy Scannell who had 3 children, Helen, Tim and ? (I think this would Elizabeth Anne - The cousin would be Timothy who married Carey, The Helen is Sr. Helen). Tim lived in the Bronx. He also had a cousin Nellie Cashman, she lived in Spring Valley. She had a son member of NYCPD - Emerald Society. He would be in his 60's, lives near Sterling Forest.

Denis was born in County Kerry, Ireland. He was a member of the Irish Republican Army. He lived some where near the Cliffords - Milltown Store. He was active in the fighting in the 1920's. Nora's brother, Mike Clifford, was also with the IRA. He got shot and Denis carried him on his back up one moutnain and down another until he eventually found a Doctor who would treat Mike. Denis saved Mike's life. Both men were wanted by the British Government which put a price on their heads. This may have been why they came to the US. During World War II the British Government granted them amnesty.

Denis was an exceptionally good Irish football player. He played on a County Kerry team as well as in All Star Championship games in the Polo Grounds and Yankee Stadium and a Gaelic Park in Queens. If you or anyone else have Nora's old trunk it should contain clippings, ribbons etc. of his triumphs.

He drove a truck for Reaves' grocery stores until he got sick. Then he worked for a time at the Cloisters.

There was another relative, there name was Madigan. Their daughter became a judge in NYC. She was the one that sponsored Timmy for the bar examination. Not sure whether it was the mother's or father's side but some how there was a family connection.

Nora Clifford - Father James Clifford, Mother Mary Sullivan

She came from a large family in County Kerry. There were 4 girls Mary Hannah, Nora, Nell and 6 boys Jerry, Pat, Jim, Daniel, Mike and Tim (twins).

A Sullivan first cousin had 4 children (Maureen, Norean, Mike and Tim all redheads.

Mary (Jim's Mother) died in 1920 of the flu.

Jim married Jeonette and had 6 children Mary Jean, Kathleen, James, Donald, Dennis and Kevin.

Denis and Nora were married in St. Gregory's - 90th st, around 1929 both buried in Gate of Heaven.

Address when married was 100W 89th St. (Marriage certificate). THis address was also the one used in immigration papers in July 1928. He must have left and then came back because he

Came to US before 1925 (Kerry Football picture in NY) and 1929(married). Seamus also said that he did come back to Ireland once after he left.

When Dad was born the address was: 136 West 90th St. Dad was born at the hospital at 130 East 69th St.

Aunt Cathy said they use to visit them at 602 West 184th St. New York, this is also on his death certificate. (this is where Dad lived when he was married to mom according to marriage certificate).

St. Elizabeth Church was their Church in NY.

He worked for the NY Parks Dept in NY near the George Washington Bridge. Abereidon?

Confirmed date of birth from certificate with Ellen Casey as mom, 8/20/1898!

Cemetary and death certificate has the wrong birth date 8/20/1888 inistead of 1898. The tombstone says 1898-1961 which is correct.

His marriage certificate says he was 29 in 1929 and 30 on Dad's birth certificate. I think he was using the birth date of his cousin Denis Scannell who died young and was born on November 4, 1899 to Timothy Scannell and Ellen Coffey to avoid the IRA?

Denis was very close with Timothy Scannell (who married Coffey)'s son Timothy Scannell. He is the Godfather of his daughter Sr. Helen

Came to NY through Canada. I have immigration records. a

email from Seamus in regards to Denis' Birth Certificate, Aug 2, 2002:

The phone rang again, and it was Mary from the first office, and she had rang the Civil Registeration Office In Killarney (where I got the last cert),

and didnt they find the correct cert for Denis. He was born 20th August 1898. I was going into Killarney and I went in and now I have it. It was Ellen herself that informed the office on the 30th Sept 1898,and it was

signed with an X ,her mark. She probably could not write either.

    His birth infomation is:

Ref: 1898, Killarney, September qtr., 5-247

His mom Ellen registered the birth herself on Sept 30, 1898 who signed with a mark. The record states that: Denis Scannell was born on 20 August 1898 at Coolroe which is in the registration district of Milltown in the Union of Killarney, Co. Kerry. His father was Timothy Scannell, Farmer, Coolroe

His marriage certificate says he was a clerk.

His death certificate says he was a Guard.

Denis, first born, named after his grandfather.

I rang John Lyne to night, and I think maybe he added to the confusion

about our relations. He didnt know too much, but he said his grand father John Scannell, came from Killarney and not Douglas,His Mothers name was Ellie

(Ellen),His aunts were Mollie (another name for Mary),Maggie and Nora.

His Uncles wereTady (Tim),Mick, and Denis,This Denis is the father of

John Scannell on the Ring of Kerry. He said the most of his uncles and

Aunts went to America.

    Child of Denis Scannell is:

    207 i. John7 Scannell, born in Cahirciveen.

    Notes for John Scannell:

He lives on the ring of Kerry. Cahirciveen

I will give the names you gave to me to John Lyne,he also said he was calling to John Scannell near Cahirciveen, who is a son of Denis and grandson of John Scannell, and he see has he any information.(John Lynes mother Ellen and this John's father Denis were sister and brother).

    Paul,

That Michael Scannell is surely our Timothys brother. This evening in the shop where I work, this fellow came in to buy a washing machine, just before we closed, and I asked him his name to put it on the machine and he said Lyne from Kells, which is on The Ring of Kerry, about 6 miles from Killorglin, and we said to gether are we related, I met him years ago at Marys house in Doughlas,he knew me but i didnt know him. He told me his father's mothers name was Scannell from Doughlas, who would be a daughter of Michael Scannells,he did'nt know her first name, but will ask his father and let me when he comes in to collect the machine before the weekend. I also asked him about a John Scannell that also lives on the Ring Of Kerry about 10 miles further on near Cahirciveen ( I think I told you when we were talking that you would have passed his front door when you went around the Ring). I found out a few years ago where this John lived but I never met him,any I found out this evening that his father's name was

Denis who was a brother of the Lyne man grandmother (Scannell),and would be a son of Michael Scannell. This DenIs Scannell is probably the

grandfather of Cynthia's husband also. I told the Lyne man that I would write down what you sent me and I will give it to him when he calls in at the

weekend. Maybe we might get some where now.

I asked but they have no email.

Hope as is well at you place.

    Hi Paul.

John Lyne rang me to night, before I got your email.I asked him if he knew

his grandmothers name, that would be Ellen Scannell's mother, but he didnt

know. When I mentioned that you had Shea and Kissane married to John

Scannell,he said it could be Kissane. There was a Danny Kissane living in

Killorglin (now dead),who was related to my father, John Lyne said to me

tonight that Danny's father was a first cousin of his mother Ellen, and thats

why he thought his grandmother was Kissane. But sure that wouldnt leave

Danny Kissane related to my father,or would it. I think Danny was a cousin of my fathers and that his grandmother was Scannell maybe a sister of John,Timothy and Michael,I must ask Mary Walsh about that.

    Paul.

Just got your email.Tullorum is near Killarney. The Lynes said that their

family came from near Killarney. John Lynes mother was Ellen Scannell who was a daughter of John Scannell ,Ellen also had brothers and sisters,Mollie (or Mary),Maggie,Nora, Tady (or Timothy),Mick and Denny. Dont it look very likely, that that John Scannell would be a brother of our Timothy.
